Guide to Brazilian Music:
If nothing else, this psychedelic relic has a very colorful back story... The group Spectrum were one of many bands drawn into the orbit of Brazil's coastal hippie colony Nova Friburgia, Rio's version of the Dutch alternative lifestyle enclave of Christiania. What distinguished Spectrum was that they were chosen to provide the soundtrack to Carlos Bini's documentary film, Geracao Bendita,which captured the chaotic idealism of the experimental commune. The music itself is pretty good, with loudly aggressive acid rock guitars, more in line with the hard rock and proto-metal of Iron Butterfly and Led Zeppelin than with the Beatles-y tendencies of the MPB-bound tropicalistas. On the downside, it should be noted that the band had a guitar player who somewhat opportunistically went by the name "Caetano," which was fair enough since his real name was Jose Luiz Caetano de Silva... Except that the infinitely better-known tropicalia founder, Caetano Veloso, was at the time a national martyr, living in exile for his opposition to the military regime that took power in 1964. A little misleading, to be sure. At any rate, this disc is worth tracking down, as very few Brazilian bands hit such heavy, fuzzed-out psychedelic heights. Fans of Os Mutantes, etc., will defininitely want to check this out.

the only recording of this band so it seems Clocking in at only 23 minutes 39 seconds

From Ohio, this is predominantly a hard rock album with some soft passages and psychedelic overtones. It is well worth investigating for its good guitar work and vocals. The album is sought-after among collectors and even the counterfeit is now hard to find, although Gear Fab are currently working on a legitimate CD release, so watch this space!
The two 45s feature non-LP tracks.
Compilation appearances have included: What People Say, Carry Me On and Buying Time on Filling The Gap (4-LP).

An Irish group who formed in Dublin in 1972. Their album is very rare and expensive to obtain, some copies included a poster and naturally these fetch a little more. Their 45s are minor collectables too. Their blend of progressivism and Irish folk music is well worth seeking out so snap up the Little Wing reissue, which also includes both sides of their first 45 while you can.
This album, if you can find it, is a truly brilliant piece of musical excellence. The traditional aspect of their music mixed with undoubted rock influences is continued by other artists such as the Horslips, but I believe that Mushroom have pioneered the genre with this album. Some classic tunes include Liothdon (along with it's counterpart Crying), and the second side of this disc is almost all memorable rock riffs mixed with fantastic flute reels and minor chordage, such as Standing Alone, Johnny The Jumper, Potters Wheel, King Of Alba et al.
A definite purchase for anyone wanting to explore the Irish side of progressive music. Horslips were not the only band to call themselves traditional rock in Ireland!
